Holiday Inn – Boiler room upgrade

  • Client

    Kew Green Hotels Ltd
  • Location

    Holiday Inn - Rugby
  • Sector

    Hotels & Leisure
  • Requirements

Upgrade of hotel boiler room currently operating with temporary heating unit
  • Objective

Replacement of condemned boiler plant and upgrade of controls

Just before Christmas 2020 we attended site at the Holiday Inn hotel in Rugby to install a temporary boiler system to provide heat for the hotel; our case study on that issue can be viewed here.
Happy with our response and the work done, we were invited to submit our price to replace the existing condemned boilers and upgrade the boiler room.

We were successful in competitive tender, and moved quickly to fit out the boiler room and get the hotel back onto its own boilers for heating.

The boiler room is in the basement and an exiting (de-commissioned) CHP (Combined Heat & Power) unit was removed to accommodate the new boiler installation.

Installing a lifting frame allowed us to remove the CHP unit and clear the boiler room in readiness for the new boilers.

With the area cleared the new boilers and associated equipment could be installed.

Electrical works completed by our in-house team included:

  • Gas safety interlock panel and electro-thermal fuses
  • Wiring to boilers and pumps
  • Energy efficient LED lighting

This was a great install, handed over 4 weeks from start; ahead of expectation.

Results

Work started on the 25th January and the client was initially advised that this would be a 5-6 week project.

  • We handed the project over on the 19th February (Friday of the fourth week)
  • The client was provided weekly updates during the works

…also again many thanks to Paul and the team for a fantastic job here with the new boiler install also David as well for keeping us up to date with everything
